Jackson Martin, Seep
at Visual Art Exchange
Seep is an installation designed specifically for The Cube gallery at the Visual Art Exchange in Raleigh, NC. It consists of a large northern red oak tree appearing to grow up through a hardwood floor and pass through the ceiling above. The custom-built white oak hardwood floor is laid in a herringbone pattern and stretches out from the trunk of the tree. Several of the boards have been steam-bent and installed so that they are gracefully curving out of the way of and embracing the growing tree. Rather than ending abruptly, the boards extend to a variety of lengths, creating a zigzag pattern at the edge of the hardwood floor.
