My passions are photography and painting, sometimes combing the two. This past year I have been focusing on nonrepresentational, non-vanity portraits. Some portraits are about abstracting the face while others have religious narratives. Using the familiarity of the face as a template, my process involves hand painting the developer in the darkroom intentionally revealing certain parts of the negative. Mysterious portraits are formed by harsh brush strokes and drips. The goal is to draw the viewer in to take a closer look, hopefully creating an emotional experience.
